Born and raised in California, in high school I competed in swimming, track, wrestling, and football. I attended Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. I spent some time on the wrestling team, but soon found coaching was my true passion. For six years I dedicated myself to coaching boys and girls high school wrestling. During my time being a coach, we had multiple kids place at CIF, Masters and State, with one of my teams winning a CIF championship. While I was coaching, I was asked to be a part of a local semi-pro football team, where we won the league championship.
I was hesitant to join to CrossFit at first, assuming it was movements I was doing in the gym already. I was invited to try a class and I realized pretty quickly that I was wrong and should’ve started a lot sooner than I did. I enjoy the barbell movements; I like the variety of scaling options that are for everyone.
I’ve been married to my wife, Kelly (who is also one of our Bird Dog athletes) for 13 years and we have four kids together – three boys and a girl. I enjoy hanging out with the kids, watching them play sports and traveling. I like the balance of being active but also relaxing and binging on shows with my wife.
A funny fact about me is I once went skydiving and now I’m deathly afraid of heights. It’s a work in progress and I’m looking forward to putting up the Christmas lights on the house in the near future.
